Baseball Game Preview: Tunkhannock Tigers vs. Lakeland Chiefs

The Tunkhannock Tigers will head out on the road to square off against the Lakeland Chiefs at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, Tunkhannock turned things around against Hanover Area on Monday. They came out on top against the Hawkeyes by a score of 8-3.

Paul Poepperling tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hunter Gilroy, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ethan Dominick, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Tunkhannock was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hanover Area only posted a batting average of .207.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Monday as neither Lakeland nor Western Wayne made it on the board until the eighth inning. The Chiefs came out on top in a nail-biter against the Wildcats, sneaking past 2-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Justin King looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Lakeland is 4-1 when King allows one or fewer hits, but 2-12 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Lakeland saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dylan Loomis, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Tunkhannock picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 2-17. As for Lakeland, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-13.
