Two dominant backs in Turner Milender and Kolten Zurmuehlen are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Superior Bobcats will head out to square off against the Seeley-Swan Blackhawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
While Superior's win against Darby wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bobcats had just enough and edged out the Tigers 34-32. The victory continues a trend for the Bobcats in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won three in a row.
Phineas Cataldo had another great game (as he tends to do), picking up 111 receiving yards and two touchdowns. He also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making five total tackles and defending one pass. Another player making a difference was Gannon Quinlan, who rushed for 73 yards and one TD on only eight carries.
Meanwhile, while Seeley-Swan put up plenty of points on Friday, the same can't be said for Troy. The Blackhawks breezed past the Trojans to the tune of 54-0. Fans of the Blackhawks have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.
Superior better keep an eye on Quinlan McClure. He was instrumental in Seeley-Swan's win, rushing for 142 yards and three scores. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 79 yards. Blake Irwin was another key player, throwing for 39 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Seeley-Swan didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Cash Schuster, Tully Good, and Zurmuehlen picked up one apiece. Seeley-Swan got some further help from Derrick Brovold: he picked up two sacks and made seven total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Superior's record is now 4-1. As for Seeley-Swan, their record now sits at 5-0.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Superior has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 245.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Seeley-Swan struggles in that department as they've been averaging 254.6 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Superior was taken down by Seeley-Swan 66-22 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Can the Bobcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
