Softball Recap: West Jefferson Starts Season with Victory at Home

West Jefferson took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Licking Heights Hornets a 12-0 shutout.

Jenna Mannon was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Mannon was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Hailey McBrayer was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs. Another player making a difference was Zoey Brown, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two runs.

West Jefferson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Licking Heights' defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Jefferson is headed away from home for the first time to challenge Hamilton Township at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Licking Heights, they will square off against Bishop Hartley at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday. Licking Heights will need to watch out since Bishop Hartley has now posted at least ten runs every time they've taken the field this season.
