Football Recap: Ridgefield Tigers vs. Westhill Vikings
Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ridgefield). They breezed by the Westhill Vikings to the tune of 42-6 on Saturday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Tigers needed considering they were shutout in their previous game.
Ridgefield had a senior duo take command as Max Keppler rushed for 51 yards and two touchdowns and Jay Shim rushed for 75 yards and two touchdowns. The dominant performance gave Shim a new career-high in rushing yards.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Ridgefield's defense and their six sacks. Jackie Bucci was especially locked on to Westhill's QB and sacked him twice. Trevor Chojnacki was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making four total tackles in addition to snagging an interception which he returned one-yard for a touchdown.
Ridgefield's record now sits at 3-4. As for Westhill, they now also have a losing record at 3-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought when Tigers challenges Greenwich at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. They are coming into the match with three straight wins on the road, so Ridgefield will have to stop a team with plenty of momentum. As for Westhill, they will host Trumbull at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
