Cinco Ranch and Cypress Falls squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Cinco Ranch had to settle for second. They lost 46-25 to the Eagles. The Cougars' defeat signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.

When it comes to explaining why Cinco Ranch lost, don't look at Maxwell Williams. Despite the final result, he picked up 133 receiving yards and two scores. The Cougars also got a significant boost from Marcus Gadlin, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 91 yards.

Cypress Falls' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Deron Simpson led the charge by rushing for 159 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 15 carries. Simpson has become a key player for the Eagles: the team is undefeated when he posts at least 80 rushing yards, but 2-3 otherwise. Gabriel Wilson was another key player, rushing for 154 yards and two TDs while picking up 7.7 yards per carry.

Cinco Ranch's loss dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Cypress Falls, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 9-3.

Cinco Ranch does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Cypress Falls, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 54-27 defeat against North Shore on the 28th.
