Softball Recap: Colerain Has No Trouble Against Northwest

Colerain won the last time they faced Northwest and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Cardinals blew past the Knights 23-14. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Cardinals considering their one-run performance the game before.

Alexa Hartwig made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and seven unearned) runs off five hits. Hartwig was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Natali McGuire was a standout: she fired off two home runs, four runs, and five RBI while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Keera Schulze was another key player, going 4-for-6 with one home run, six RBI, and three doubles.

Colerain hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 2-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Colerain's record now sits at 4-9. As for Northwest, they are on a 15-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Looking ahead, Colerain will head out on the road to face off against Fairfield at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Indians will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Cardinals surely won't give up without a fight. As for Northwest, they will welcome Princeton at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
