Cuba City and Fennimore are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Cubans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Golden Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Cuba City proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by ten) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over Riverdale. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cubans have posted since April 8th.
Meanwhile, Fennimore hadn't done well against Prairie du Chien recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Golden Eagles blew past the Blackhawks 15-3. That looming 15-3 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Golden Eagles yet this season.
Ethan Sheckler was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Brock Henkel was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs and one stolen base. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Casey Dresen, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Fennimore always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Cuba City pushed their record up to 6-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Fennimore, their win bumped their record up to 10-1.
