Basketball Game Preview: Augusta Prep Day Cavaliers vs. Gatewood Gators

Augusta Prep Day and Gatewood are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2017, but not for long. The Augusta Prep Day Cavaliers will square off against the Gatewood Gators at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Gatewood took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Augusta Prep Day, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with 19 losses in a row dating back to last season, Augusta Prep Day turned things around against Monsignor Donovan Catholic on Tuesday. They blew past the Rams, posting a 38-5 victory. The Cavaliers' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, Gatewood came up short against Brentwood on Thursday and fell 55-44. While losing is never fun, the Gators can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 283rd, while the War Eagles are ranked 81st).

Gatewood's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Augusta Prep Day, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-11.

Augusta Prep Day was taken down by Gatewood 59-15 in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Augusta Prep Day was down 28-4.
