Baseball Recap: Spooner Victorious

Spooner proved they can win big last Saturday (they won by 12) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Chetek-Weyerhaeuser Bulldogs 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Rails have posted since May 6, 2024.

Evan Potaczek spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single walk any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Spooner saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Sobralski, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Sobralski is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

Spooner now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Chetek-Weyerhaeuser, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Spooner will host Ellsworth at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Chetek-Weyerhaeuser, they will be playing in front of their home fans against McDonell Central at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
