The Ursuline Fighting Irish will head out to face off against the Canfield Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
On Saturday, Ursuline needed a bit of extra time to put away South Range. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Raiders 5-4.

Anthony Triveri was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one run. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.
Triveri wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Joe Balog, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Canfield, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Austintown-Fitch 4-3 on Monday.
Like Ursuline, Canfield also got a great game from a two-way player: Anthony Groner. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Groner is becoming a predictor of Canfield's success: when he allows at most two hits the team is undefeated (and 8-9 when he doesn't). Groner was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ryan Weibling was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Dylan Mancini, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Ursuline is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for Canfield, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-9.
Ursuline beat Canfield 6-1 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Do the Fighting Irish have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cardinals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
