Basketball Recap: Lowry Falls Short Against Ranked Churchill County

On Friday, Lowry faced Churchill County in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Lowry Buckaroos fell 47-36 to the Churchill County Greenwave. The game marked the Buckaroos' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Several Buckaroos players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Britain Backus, who posted 16 points in addition to five boards and five steals. That was a full 44.4% of Lowry's points, marking the 17th time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. Matti Delong was another key player, putting up seven points and eight rebounds.

Churchill County found their leader in sophomore Raegan Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 18 boards. Those 18 rebounds set a new season-high mark for Johnson. The team also got some help courtesy of Kortnie B. Simper, who scored eight points and three steals.

With the defeat, Lowry broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-6. As for Churchill County, they pushed their record up to 18-6 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lowry will challenge Fernley at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lowry is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.9 points per game this season. As for Churchill County, they will face off against Dayton at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
