Basketball Recap: Salem Wildcats vs. Sacred Heart Crusaders

Salem was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 34th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were beaten by the Sacred Heart Crusaders 65-27. The Wildcats were down 46-25 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Dylan Thornton, who posted eight points in addition to five rebounds and four blocks. Thornton is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last nine games he's played.

Sacred Heart got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Luke Davey out in front who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten boards. Another player making a difference was Colter Garner, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 13 points and seven rebounds.

Salem's loss dropped their record down to 0-14. As for Sacred Heart, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Salem will challenge East Marion at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Sacred Heart, they will take on Lumberton at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Sacred Heart has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
