Baseball Recap: Avenal Takes a Loss

Avenal had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 0-17 to make it ten. They lost 23-0 to the Dos Palos Broncos. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Broncos this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 30-0 on April 4th.

Avenal saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Marco Abundiz, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. That hit marked the first that Abundiz has got this season.

As for Dos Palos, their record is now 10-11-1. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

On Dos Palos' side, Gilbert Ramirez was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Ramirez has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since April 4th.

In other batting news, Tevin Clay was a standout: he got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since April 4th. Chaz Merrell was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Avenal will take on Coalinga at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Horned Toads will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Buccaneers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Dos Palos, they will head out on the road to challenge Mendota at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Broncos will need to watch out since the Aztecs have now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests.
