Football Recap: Sweetwater Starts off Right with Win over Idalou

Sweetwater took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 44-22 margin over the Idalou Wildcats. For the Mustangs, this counts as revenge for the 25-21 victory the Wildcats walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2024.

Sweetwater's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Caiden Ortiz, who threw for 303 yards and three TDs while completing 72.7% of his passes. Those 303 passing yards gave Ortiz a new career-high. Braxton Bartee also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.

Sweetwater's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Talan Lujan with two sacks.

Coming up, Sweetwater will challenge Greenwood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Idalou, they will square off against Liberty at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
