Baseball Game Preview: Mead Mavericks vs. Air Academy Kadets

The Mead Mavericks will take on the Air Academy Kadets at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.

On Monday, Mead didn't have quite enough to beat University and fell 2-1.

Meanwhile, Air Academy earned an 8-5 win over Pueblo Centennial on Monday. With that victory, the Kadets brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

Air Academy got a great performance from Sam Brennan as he struck out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Those six strikeouts gave Brennan a new career-high.

At the plate, Sam Steubing was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Air Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-9-1 otherwise. Ayden Honeywood was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Air Academy and bumps their season record up to 12-9-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Mead, their loss dropped their record down to 14-9.
