Softball Recap: Vallejo Victorious

Vallejo's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They came out on top against the Bethel Jaguars by a score of 9-4. The Redhawks haven't had any issues with the Jaguars recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Madeleine Melgoza made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 18 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Those 18 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, Sofi Valdez and Roxana Villarreal did most of the damage at the plate: Valdez went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, while Villarreal went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Amiyah Davis, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Vallejo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bethel only posted an OBP of .241.

Vallejo's record is now 6-7-1. As for Bethel, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-15-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vallejo will venture away from home to square off against Kennedy at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.1 runs per game on average), something the Redhawks will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Bethel, they are taking a road trip to challenge Hercules at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
