Football Game Preview: Ephrata Mountaineers vs. Governor Mifflin Mustangs

The Ephrata Mountaineers will head out to take on the Governor Mifflin Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Ephrata will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.

Ephrata took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They breezed past Lebanon to the tune of 57-12. The game marked the Mountaineers' most dominant victory of the season.

Malachi Knowles was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 70 yards and three scores on only eight carries. Josiah Grant was in the mix as well, providing Ephrata with two touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Ephrata was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 301 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Ephrata's defense and their four sacks. Jackson Nolt refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. Ephrata received some extra help from Caleb Rice, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Meanwhile, Governor Mifflin ended up a good deal behind Elizabethtown on Friday and lost 34-16.

With the win, Ephrata broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-4. As for Governor Mifflin, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.

Ephrata strolled past Governor Mifflin in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 by a score of 35-21. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mountaineers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
