Softball Recap: Heritage Patriots vs. Norwell Knights

Heritage put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Norwell Knights with a sharp 15-4 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for Heritage as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Danica Fuller was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Fuller has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive pitching appearances. Fuller was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Abriyah James was incredible, going 3-for-3 with a home run, four stolen bases, and four runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Guenthner, who went 1-for-3 with a home run, two runs, and a stolen base.

On Norwell's side, Leah Werling made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 3-for-3. Jordan Markley was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

Heritage's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-7. As for Norwell, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Heritage will take on Adams Central at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Adams Central will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Heritage surely won't give up without a fight. As for Norwell, they will stay at home for another game and welcome DeKalb at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. DeKalb is coming into the game with three straight losses on the road, meaning Norwell will have to defend against a team hungry for a victory.
