Basketball Recap: Big Rapids Takes a Loss

If Big Rapids was feeling good fresh off their 77-48 takedown of Tri County Area last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Big Rapids Cardinals took a blow against the Whitehall Vikings on Tuesday, falling 68-35. The game marked the Cardinals' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Camden Thompson was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 18 rebounds for Whitehall. The contest was Thompson's 24th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Pierce Westerlund, who posted 12 points.

Big Rapids' defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-5. As for Whitehall, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.

Big Rapids and Whitehall should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings. Big Rapids (ranked 305th) will meet Reed City (ranked 635th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Big Rapids will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Meanwhile, Whitehall will take on Oakridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday up 178 places (49 vs. 227).
