Softball Recap: Baker County Sets Scoring Season-High Against Hilliard

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Baker County). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Hilliard Red Flashes a 15-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Wildcats' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three matches.

Rylee Walker looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Baleigh Shields was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Mallory Jackson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Baker County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in five consecutive contests.

Baker County has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Hilliard, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 6-13 record.

Baker County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Hilliard, they will square off against Bishop Kenny at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Crusaders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.83 runs per game on average), something the Red Flashes will no doubt try to take advantage of.
