Baseball Recap: Boone Grove Takes Down Wapahani in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Boone Grove walked away with it. They blew past the Wapahani Raiders 9-2 on Saturday. The Wolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 20 games by seven runs or more this season.

Javy Carrera was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Tristan Wilson was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Caleb Thomas, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Boone Grove was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.

Boone Grove's record now sits at 26-5. As for Wapahani, they moved to 20-9 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Boone Grove will square off against Evansville Mater Dei at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wolves 2.2, the Wildcats 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. Wapahani does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
