Recap: Sussex Central Golden Knights vs. Smyrna Eagles
On Friday, the Sussex Central Golden Knights faced the Smyrna Eagles in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Sussex Central fell to Smyrna 40-35. It was the first time this season that Sussex Central let down their fans at home.
Sussex Central's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being William Harmon, who rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. Malik Bell also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Smyrna found their leader in underclassman Kahmaj Kearney, who rushed for 62 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries.
Sussex Central's loss dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Smyrna, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-6.
Sussex Central will be playing in front of their home fans against Appoquinimink at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Delaware (Appoquinimink is ranked ninth, while Sussex Central is ranked sixth). As for Smyrna, they will head out on the road to face off against Salesianum at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Salesianum knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six contests -- so hopefully Smyrna likes a good challenge.
