The Tombstone Yellow Jackets will challenge the Tanque Verde Hawks at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Tombstone is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Tanque Verde is facing Tombstone at the wrong time: Tombstone suffered their first home loss of the season on Thursday and they're likely out for redemption. They fell just short of the Pumas by a score of 4-3.
Kelly Bliss was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one triple.
Meanwhile, Tanque Verde entered their tilt with Sahuaro on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over the Cougars. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Ryan Ruskay spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Tanque Verde's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Rocco Haggard, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Another was Dylan Lewis, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Tanque Verde kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive contests.
Tombstone's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 11-4-1. As for Tanque Verde, their win bumped their record up to 9-4-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Tombstone has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Tanque Verde struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
