Volleyball Recap: Sunrise Mountain Falls Despite Big Games from Brayden Case and Braxton Owsley

Sunrise Mountain was the 2-0 winner over Desert Edge when they last played one another back in March of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Mustangs fell just short of the Scorpions by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. While the Mustangs didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Scorpions 25-14 in the first set.

Sunrise Mountain actually scored more points across those five sets (101-96), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The final score came out to 14-25, 25-16, 17-25, 25-22, 15-13.

Sunrise Mountain's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Braxton Owsley, who had 11 digs and two aces, and Brayden Case, who had 24 kills, 12 digs, and four aces. Case has been hot for a while, having posted seven or more kills the last 13 times he's played.

This is the second loss in a row for Sunrise Mountain and nudges their season record down to 17-13. As for Desert Edge, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-7.

Looking ahead, Sunrise Mountain will head out to face off against Willow Canyon at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Desert Edge, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Buckeye at 5:00 p.m.
