Auburn had lost seven straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 1-13 to make it eight. They came up short against the South Whidbey Falcons, falling 16-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Falcons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-1 on Saturday.
Auburn saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ivory Brodie, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
As for South Whidbey, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-5. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won five contests by 13 runs or more so far this season.
On South Whidbey's side, Sophia Jennings and Kennedy Strevel were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Jennings pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Strevel tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Jennings went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Strevel went 1-for-3 with two runs. That's the most stolen bases Jennings has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Lena Hegeness and Sophie Ziegler did most of the damage at the plate: Hegeness went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Ziegler got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most stolen bases Hegeness has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Gretta Jones, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Auburn will head out on the road to challenge Kentridge at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chargers' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Trojans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for South Whidbey, they have already played their next game, a 7-5 win against Tyee on the 28th.
