Baseball Recap: Calhoun Academy Drops Season-High Score on Hebron Christian

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Calhoun Academy). Everything went their way against the Hebron Christian Eagles on Friday as they made off with a 16-2 win. Winning may never get old, but the Cougars sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.

Kaden Denton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Layton Logan, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. He has become a key player for Calhoun Academy: the team is 7-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 4-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Carsen Stegall, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Calhoun Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.4.

Calhoun Academy pushed their record up to 11-7 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.

Looking ahead, Calhoun Academy will challenge Marvell Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hebron Christian will be paying especially close attention to the Cougars' contest: after the Cougars faces off against Kirk Academy, they'll take on Hebron Christian again at 6:00 p.m. on the 14th.
