Basketball Preview: Mt. Pleasant Tigers vs. Loretto Mustangs
Mt. Pleasant is 0-7 against the Mustangs since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Mt. Pleasant Tigers will look to defend their home court against the Loretto Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Mt. Pleasant entered their tilt with the Eagles with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Everything went Mt. Pleasant's way against the Eagles on Friday as the Tigers made off with a 73-53 victory. The score was close at the half, but Mt. Pleasant pulled away in the second half with 38 points.
Mt. Pleasant relied on the efforts of Jakyri McClure, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds, and Ryan Benderman, who dropped a double-double on 29 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Benderman has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Hayden Holt, who scored 14 points.
Meanwhile, Loretto scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They blew past Lewis County, posting a 80-34 victory at home. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Loretto has managed all season.
Mt. Pleasant's win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-5. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.8 points per game. As for Loretto, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season.
