2012-13 finish: 20-5
The Governors won the Class AA title last season and graduated six seniors, including Lane Severyn and Zach Hanson, two dynamic players. But experienced players still are set to return, like
Austin Christopherson (6-0 senior guard),
Garrett Pochop (5-10 junior guard) and
Cooper Walton (6-6 senior forward) each with two years of varsity experience coming in to this season.
Nick Rabern (6-1 junior guard) is also back.
2. Sioux Falls ChristianHead coach: Mike Schouten
2012-13 finish: 21-1
The Chargers were 21-0 before Dell Rapids shocked them in the Class A state tournament. This season, they will be without six seniors as well. Jordan Baker and Cody Van Holland have moved on, but
Luke Hurley (6-2 senior guard) is back for his third varsity season to lead the team.
3. Brandon Valley (Brandon)Head coach: Brent Deckert
2012-13 finish: 18-7
The Lynx have
Jacob Adams coming back, and he was the second-leading scorer on last year's team that lost to Riggs in the state title game. Adams (a senior) averaged 12.5 points per game. Third-leading scorer
Nic Peterson (senior) returns for his third varsity season as well after pouring in 11.6 points per game.
4. White RiverHead coach: Eldon Marshall
2012-13 finish: 25-1
Four juniors and two sophomores from last season's great team are now a year older and they will try to win another state title. It was a high-scoring squad last season.
Justin Prue is now a junior guard and will get the chance to lead the way after Wyatt Krogman, Nic Waln and others have moved on. Senior
Tavis Burbank is also a player who will do a lot of things and has played on the varsity squad since eighth grade.
5. Roosevelt (Sioux Falls)Head coach: Lee Taylor
2012-13 finish: 23-2
The team's three leading scorers have all moved on from a team that placed third in the state last season. There were only five juniors on the squad.
