Softball Recap: Clay Gets the Win

Fleming Island typically has all the answers at home, but on Monday Clay proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top against the Golden Eagles by a score of 5-1. The game was the first time the Blue Devils have beaten the Golden Eagles on their field since March 30, 2023.

Malia Collins was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Collins was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, D'Reah Watson and Kaelye Rouw did most of the damage at the plate: Watson went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base, while Rouw went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Those two runs gave Watson a new career-high.

The victory made it two in a row for Clay and bumps their season record up to 8-11. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Fleming Island, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-6.

Looking ahead, Clay will venture away from home to challenge Palatka at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Blue Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season. As for Fleming Island, they will square off against Tocoi Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
