Baseball Recap: Excel Academy Charter Comes Up Short

Excel Academy Charter extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 2-5 in the process. They lost 12-1 to the Salem Academy Charter Navigator. The contest marked the Wolves' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

As for Salem Academy Charter, they now have a winning record of 5-4. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Salem Academy Charter's part, Danny Silk was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Silk has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Isaac Solano was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Salem Academy Charter's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-4 when he doesn't). Jose Reyna was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Excel Academy Charter will challenge Chelsea at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Salem Academy Charter, they will square off against Cathedral at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
