Softball Recap: Courtland Has No Trouble Against James Monroe

Courtland won the last time they faced James Monroe and things went their way on Thursday too. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Yellow Jackets. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won four matches by ten runs or more so far this season.

Makayla Brooks made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Liz Gill, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Maddie Wilson, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Courtland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Courtland's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-5. As for James Monroe, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5.

Looking ahead, Courtland will head out to challenge Eastern View at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cyclones' pitching crew has only allowed one run per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for James Monroe, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Culpeper County at 5:00 p.m.
