Ceres is a perfect 10-0 against Lathrop since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Bulldogs will host the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lathrop will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Ceres extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday. The Bulldogs never let Johansen get on the board and left with a 15-0 win.
Elizabeth Figueroa made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Ceres let Gabriela Ortiz and Amaia Pritchett run wild. Ortiz scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Pritchett scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave Pritchett a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ava Montesdeoca, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Ceres was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lathrop). Everything went their way against Grace Davis on Wednesday as they made off with a 22-3 victory. Lathrop hasn't had any issues with Grace Davis recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Maci De Costa made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Ja'Leiyah Ray was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Tatianna Lopez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4.
Ceres' victory bumped their record up to 11-7. As for Lathrop, their win bumped their record up to 8-5.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Ceres hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .348. However, it's not like Lathrop struggles in that department as they've averaged .375. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Ceres' way against Lathrop in their previous meeting back in March, as Ceres made off with a 13-3 victory. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
