Softball Game Preview: Taos Tigers vs. Pojoaque Valley Elks/Elkettes

The Taos Tigers will head out to face off against the Pojoaque Valley Elks/Elkettes at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Taos is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Taos' offense. They lost 17-0 to Moriarty on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Pojoaque Valley came up short against Los Alamos on Wednesday and fell 10-7. The defeat continues a trend for the Elks/Elkettes in their meetings with the Hilltoppers: they've now lost three in a row.

Allison Paytiamo and Stephanie Romero did some serious damage despite the final result: Paytiamo went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Romero went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one triple. Paytiamo also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Lilah Herrera was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with three runs.

Taos' loss dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Pojoaque Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-16.

Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Taos hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .358. However, it's not like Pojoaque Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .320. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Everything went Taos' way against Pojoaque Valley when the teams last played two weeks ago, as Taos made off with a 14-4 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
