Basketball Game Preview: Carver Yellowjackets vs. South Stokes Sauras

The Carver Yellowjackets are taking a road trip to square off against the South Stokes Sauras at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Carver is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 68-65 victory over Cherokee. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Yellowjackets have posted since January 23rd.

Meanwhile, South Stokes came tearing into Tuesday's game with 18 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.7 points), and they left with even more momentum. They took down the Buckin' Elks 62-44. Given the Sauras' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd in North Carolina, while the Buckin' Elks are ranked 422nd in North Carolina), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

South Stokes pushed their record up to 25-2 with the victory, which was their 28th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.5 points over those games. As for Carver, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season.

Carver ended up a good deal behind South Stokes in their previous meeting back in December of 2019, losing 66-51. Can Carver avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
