Basketball Game Preview: Oakton Cougars vs. Langley Saxons

The Oakton Cougars and the Langley Saxons will face off at 6:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest, having both just played. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Oakton sitting on six straight wins and Langley on 14.

Oakton is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They slipped by Chantilly 38-37. The 38-point effort marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Meanwhile, Langley faced Centreville in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. Langley came out on top against Centreville by a score of 54-47.

Langley's victory was their 14th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.7 points over those games. As for Oakton, their win bumped their record up to 22-4.

Oakton was able to grind out a solid victory over Langley when the teams last played back in February of 2023, winning 51-40. The rematch might be a little tougher for Oakton since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
