Baseball Recap: Lordsburg Comes Up Short

Lordsburg extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 8-9 in the process. They came up short against the Mescalero Apache Chiefs, falling 15-5. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last seven times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Justin Davis was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was David Valarde, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

As for Mescalero Apache, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-13. Considering they have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

On Mescalero Apache's side, Nathaniel Duffy was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Duffy has become a key player for the Chiefs: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Yuzos, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Mescalero Apache beat Lordsburg by a score of 14-1 later that day.
