Softball Recap: Tanque Verde's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

Tanque Verde and Empire squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Tanque Verde had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Ravens by a score of 1-0. The Hawks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Ravens earlier this season, when they won 5-1.

Claire Achilles spent all 8.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 21 consecutive appearances.

Tanque Verde moved to 26-6 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak. As for Empire, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 27-1.

Tanque Verde does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Empire, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 1-0 win against Yuma Catholic on the 12th.
