The Hamburg Bulldogs will head out to challenge the Frontier Falcons at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Hamburg's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Frontier's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Hamburg is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Clarence just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Red Devils by a score of 3-2. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Dylan Monczynski was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. That one hit allowed gave him a new career-low.
At the plate, Jonah Moscato made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Erik Huggler-Canfield also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Frontier hadn't done well against Williamsville North recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Falcons narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Spartans 7-6.
Evan Sullivan was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Matthew Jones was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Frontier kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Frontier is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Hamburg, the loss was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 8-3-1.
Hamburg's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's game. The Bulldogs have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Frontier, though, as they've been averaging only 0.6 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Hamburg continue to outrun the ball?
Hamburg couldn't quite get it done against Frontier when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 4-0. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
