Baseball Recap: Dunellen Drops Highest Score of Season Against New Brunswick

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Dunellen). They blew past the New Brunswick Zebra 13-7 on Tuesday. With that win, the Destroyers brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.

Ryan Hutchins and Danny Watts were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Hutchins tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Watts struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He is becoming a predictor of Dunellen's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 2-1 (and 1-2 when he doesn't). At bat, Hutchins scored a run while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances, while Watts scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most runs Watts has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Joseph Reyes, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those hits marked the first that he got this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Dow, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Dunellen kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.

The victory got Dunellen back to even at 3-3. As for New Brunswick, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-1.
