Baseball Game Preview: Portola Bulldogs vs. Laguna Beach Breakers

The Portola Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Laguna Beach Breakers at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Portola hasn't scored more than two runs for four games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.

On Friday, Portola needed a bit of extra time to put away Irvine. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Vaqueros. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bulldogs have posted since March 21st.

Portola got a great performance from Yoshi Tsuge as he pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned run off eight hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cooper Marinelli, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Portola's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 5-11 when he doesn't).

Laguna Hills typically has all the answers at home, but on Monday Laguna Beach proved too difficult a challenge. They had just enough and edged out the Hawks 3-2.

Laguna Beach saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Arrasin, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Laguna Beach pushed their record up to 19-3 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Portola, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-12.
