Football Game Preview: Newton Tigers vs. Lake Hornets

Newton is 2-8 against Lake since August of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Tigers will look to defend their home field against the Hornets at 7:00 p.m. Newton has given up an average of 30.4 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Thursday, Newton was beaten by Leake County 46-16.

The losing side was boosted by Tazayvion Townsend, who rushed for 63 yards and one TD, and also threw for five yards and one touchdown.

Meanwhile, Lake scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 35-22 to Union. The Hornets were down 35-8 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Newton's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Lake, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Newton was taken down by Lake 36-8 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
