Baseball Recap: St. Mary's Ryken Comes Up Short

St. Mary's Ryken and Paul VI squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but St. Mary's Ryken had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 1-0. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, with their most recent loss being a 5-1 defeat two weeks ago.

Dillon Gordon was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, St. Mary's Ryken saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jason Gregory, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Gregory has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

With the loss, St. Mary's Ryken broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-14. As for Paul VI, they pushed their record up to 24-6 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

While St. Mary's Ryken had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
