5A Region II District 9 recap Oct. 3, 2012

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Richardson, who took down 425th ranked Pearce, 50-35.

The Eagles were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in 5A Region II District 9. Richardson defeated the Mustangs 50-35 earlier in the week.

Pearce's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Rhett Svetgoff threw for 172 and two touchdowns and J.r. Griffin had 66 yards receiving. On the ground Gjordan Dumas chipped in 91 yards. Ryan Stanton helped Pearce's passing attack out by catching two balls for 45 yards.

Randy Robertson's team's Svetgoff and Griffin have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Svetgoff has thrown for 541 yards this season, while Griffin has 27 catches for 365 yards. Yedidiah Louis from Berkner leads the league in rushing with 288 yards.

The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Skyline takes on second place Lake Highlands. Last week, Skyline topped Dallas Jesuit, while Lake Highlands beat the Rams.

Two highly touted recruits will be in the spotlight when the Wildcats and the Raiders meet this week. Lake Highlands features well-regarded senior Perkins while Skyline has Cedric Collins, a sought after defensive back.

Scott Smith's team moved up to 55 from 127 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region II District 9. The Wildcats climbed the ranks as a result of a 46-10 win over Berkner.
