Basketball Recap: Drew Drake Key Part of Team Effort in Cowboys Win

Meeker fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. Everything went their way against the Vail Christian Saints on Saturday as the Meeker Cowboys made off with a 65-40 victory. With that win, the Cowboys brought their scoring average up to 50.2 points per game.

Meeker's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Drew Drake led the charge by going 7-for-8 en route to 18 points and seven rebounds. Drake is becoming a predictor of Meeker's success: when he posts at least 15 points the team is 4-1 (and 4-14 when he doesn't). Tyler Sanders was another key player, putting up 16 points and three steals.

Vail Christian's loss came despite strong showings from Oliver Neumann and Jack O'Shaugnessy. Neumann posted 13 points and seven boards, while O'Shaugnessy had eight points and nine rebounds.

Meeker's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-15. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.3 points over those games. As for Vail Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-10.

Meeker does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Vail Christian, they will challenge Bishop Machebeuf at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Bishop Machebeuf knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 21 matchups -- so hopefully Vail Christian likes a good challenge.
