Baseball Game Preview: Cairo-Durham Mustangs vs. Greenville Spartans

The Cairo-Durham Mustangs will face off against the Greenville Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Cairo-Durham has given up an average of 8.5 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Cairo-Durham couldn't beat Catskill on Thursday even though they stacked five runs on them in the sixth inning. The Mustangs came up short against the Cats, falling 15-8. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Jacob Young put in work no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Cairo-Durham is 4-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 1-6 otherwise. Young was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Wyatt Cammarata made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Isaias Romero also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Greenville had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 7-2 victory over Hudson on Thursday.

Greenville's win bumped their record up to 3-10. As for Cairo-Durham, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.

Cairo-Durham came out on top in a nail-biter against Greenville when the teams last played back in April, sneaking past 8-6. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
