Baseball Recap: Firestone's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Firestone proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by eight) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Cuyahoga Falls Black Tigers 6-5. The win was familiar territory for the Falcons, who have now won four contests in a row.

Haneef Abdul-Mujib made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Malcolm Bufford, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Brennen Hostler also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Firestone's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-6. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Cuyahoga Falls, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-13.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Firestone will venture away from home to take on Ellet at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Orangemen have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season. As for Cuyahoga Falls, they are taking a road trip to face off against Springfield at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
