Softball Game Preview: Lancaster Eagles vs. Knight Hawks

The Lancaster Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Knight Hawks at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Lancaster's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three contests.

Lancaster's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Antelope Valley as they made off with a 12-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won seven games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Cassandra Velasquez made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Velasquez was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jordyn Zinn, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.1 runs per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlee Laxamana, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Lancaster always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .526 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Knight sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over Eastside on Tuesday.

Lancaster is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games. As for Knight, their record now sits at 7-5.
