Baseball Recap: Maynard Takes a Loss

Maynard made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Bromfield, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Tigers fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 4-2 on Wednesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-1 back in April.

Max Mandler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Maynard saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Liam Lawton, who went 1-for-2 with one run. Another was Ethan Talcoff, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run.

Maynard's loss dropped their record down to 11-4. As for Bromfield, their victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-1.

Maynard and Bromfield should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Massachusetts Rankings. The Tigers will take on Assabet Valley RVT at 3:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (108 vs. 284). Meanwhile, Bromfield (ranked 79th) will meet Murdock (ranked 306th) at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
