Basketball Game Preview: Fairmont Heights Hornets vs. Crossland Cavaliers

Fairmont Heights and Crossland are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The Fairmont Heights Hornets will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Crossland Cavaliers at 6:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Tuesday, Fairmont Heights ended up a good deal behind Friendly and lost 42-26. The Hornets haven't had much luck with the Patriots recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Angela Green and Jasmine Germany. Germany had a great game and posted 20 points and six steals. Meanwhile, Green did her best for the losing side, putting up 14 points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Crossland played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt an 86-20 loss at the hands of Largo. The Cavaliers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 66-12.

Despite the defeat, Crossland saw an underclassman step up: freshman Zaida Birruete put up nine points.

Crossland has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. As for Fairmont Heights, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.

Everything went Fairmont Heights' way against Crossland in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as Fairmont Heights made off with a 45-24 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Crossland's Kendra Gaton, who scored 22 points.
