Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Churchill). They never let the Springfield Millers get on the board and left with a 22-0 victory on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Lancers in their matchups with the Millers: they've now won eight in a row.
Parker Emmons was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Churchill's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 4-2 (and 4-8 when he doesn't). Emmons was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Lucas Gansen looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Churchill is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 6-9 otherwise.
Back at the plate, Churchill got a massive performance out of Jayden Arbogast, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. That's the most runs Arbogast has posted since back in March. Carlos Barajas was another key player, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Churchill kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.7 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 9.2.
Churchill's victory bumped their record up to 8-10. As for Springfield, they dropped their record down to 2-14 with the defeat, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season.
